Alright! So I've decided that once we hit 300 fans on my Facebook Fan Page I would like to give away a 2011 Fantasy Art of Maigan Lynn Calendar - you can view them here on Zazzle

They are made by the Zazzle company - they're super cute! (and I have them on hand so I can ship them from here!)

So you can tell your friends, or not tell your friends. It's totally up to you. It is not required. I only do these things to say thank you to my fans who are most obviously my supporters and the backbone to any successful business or organization.

The giveaway will be a fans name drawn at random - I usually hit up random.org to help me select a # between 1 and however many fans we have - and whichever fan on the list coincides with that # will win the prize!

Now that's not to say I won't be having giveaways in between. Every now and again I like to do a random giveaway - so you should also keep your eyes peeled for those!

Now, this giveaway, in particular, won't ONLY be done at 300 people. I think every 100 people that are added on, I'll do another. So at 400, 500, 600 etc - I will do another giveaway. Not necessarily always a calendar - there are other things to be won! :)

Also, you should note, that the Facebook company is not associated with my art or any of the giveaways I do. It's strictly for fun because I enjoy them and I think it's important to thank the fans!

Sagittarius with background!

ta da! Work in Progress! :) Here she is, with her background! :) So, to explain, the tree is an Elder tree, the whispy things behind her are asparagus, the plants behind the tree at the base are soybean plants, and the pile of nuts in front of the base of the tree are chestnuts. These are all plants associated with Sagittarius. Sagittarius is a fire sign and the colours associated with it are denim blue, beige, and bronze. Next the painting - and I do see her with coppery brown/red hair! :)

So, I've been working on my zodiac series and Saggitarius was next on the agenda! I assure you, this was one of the most difficult pieces to work on. I researched centaur's and horses and Saggitarius - I even looked to my Boxer for muscle structure of his chest! This was NOT an easy task! But I will say, I'm pleased with the outcome. For a while it looked like it was going down the tubes! I will update again when I have the background added! :)

It's not JUST about the art

Alright friends...usually I just post art, and completely art related things. But I've been thinking lately - and this could be a scary concept if it's not put down on paper in the form of an illustration! :) But I thought I would share my thoughts here.... after all, what is a blog for, if not to share?

So, it's not a surprise. I occasionally suffer with anxiety.....I say 'suffer' and it makes it sound like a disease.....let's rephrase....I occasionally have to DEAL with anxiety...much better! And much more suited to how I actually feel about it. It's a rather large annoyance. And I know I'm not the only one. Something about the creative mind and anxious tendencies seem to go hand in hand. Not ALL of my artist friends deal with this but I would say a fair share of them do.

Now, most of the time I feel fantastic, extraordinary, and exceptionally great. But take me out of my comfort zone and it's like feeding Gremlins after midnight! - It's an all around bad idea! And I so badly wish this wasn't the case. I can see myself doing great things and I have this vision of myself and who I want to be and how I want to feel...but some days it's nothing but a fight. I've become quite excellent at sabotaging myself - I've just about mastered it. And I can do this so easily because I know it's easier to believe negative things about yourself when you struggle than it is to believe the good. It just doesn't make sense. You would think that you shouldn't have to fight so hard to make yourself believe the good things about yourself.

So here is what I know.....Anxiety is a BIG DUMB UGLY PUSS INFESTED LIAR....thats right...I said it! It's a really gross visual but for the amount of times it's made me literally riddled with fear and adrenaline and sick to my stomache, the description fits perfectly! Once anxiety has crept up in there, deposited the negative seed, telling you things you can't do, it is the biggest fight of your life trying to eliminate it, or in the very least quarantine it and every feeling that becomes associated with it. You can see how one might become exhausted if this were to go on for a lengthy period of time. I have dealt with these garbage lies on and off for about 8 years now. Just when you think you've got the hang of it and evicted the whole thing from your life, it rears it's ugly head and changes the game once more.

Recently we moved to a new city. The months leading up to this move weren't, in any way, easy! And that's not just coming from someone who deals with anxiety....it would have been a gong show for anyone of sound mind! But we did it. I learned new things every day and to say I was 'tested' a lot of the time would be a rather large understatement. I did things on my own I never thought I would have to deal with in a million years but I did. I made sure I did what I had to do for my family. I took on the responsibilities so no one else would have to. I was a grown up! ...so now...months later...why does the whole thing freak me out? I feel like as far as I'm able to go on the 'positive' end of the scale, I have to make up for it by taking myself equally down the other (negative) end of the scale. I 'get' balance in life....but that kind of stuff shouldn't be the things requiring a seesaw and a graph.

These days I get nervous to go places alone. It's like I need my husband there just in case....why? I never had to worry about that before! I would drive wherever my little heart needed to go and it was never a big deal. I had the confidence and security to know I was fine. What happened to that? And when I start to worry about where those things went, It snowballs into other things. I worry about 'what if I regress to the point of being a recluse? What if I get so scared I just can't even get in the car anymore? What if something happens to me while I'm out? What if my anxiety becomes to be so much that it interferes with my husbands work/school? What if I'm not reliable to my friends or family?' ....notice a pattern here? Those two little words are enough to bring everything crashing in on you. Everything you ever believed in can be completely obliterated with those two eensy teensy little words.....what....if....

UNLESS..... :)

You can manage to build a defense against them. There are 2 other words that are trying to take over in the competitive rankings for 'Worlds Most Powerful Words" .......so.......what.....!!!! By saying those two tiny words in the immediate aftermath of a 'what if' statement, you can blow it right out of the water! 'So What' makes your 'what if' statements look like and otter wearing underpants - completely ridiculous and almost comical, if you have that kind of sense of humour!

The things I seem to be most afraid of are all things I know better than to worry about. Anxiety causes you to spend too much time on the problem rather than bothering about an actual solution. And I'm tired of being my own problem....I need to get out of my own way!

Now, here comes the cliche.......Art has been my therapy. How many people say that? It is one of the statements in this world that I know to be the most true. For as dark as my thoughts have been some days and for as hopeless as I've sometimes felt, my brightly coloured fantasy illustrations have done nothing short of a full out rescue mission. When you see my creations you might think about how fun they are, or pretty, or colourful, or happy. This is the world I create for myself. The one I ACTUALLY believe in. It makes me happy to be surrounded by the colours. They're physical reminders of how beautiful my true self sees things - myself...this world....and everything in it. And I thank my other artist friends for doing much the same for me. They've created pieces of art that are more than 'cartoons' or 'something funny', or 'colours on paper'. They've created an entire universe for people like me to wander around in and find themselves. It truly is a Wonderful and Beautiful World (Louis always said it best!)

So I want to say, I'm thankful for my husband for being one of my many rocks - he is the biggest one I know. He's supported me and told me things I knew were true even when I couldn't get my own mind to listen. I thank all of my family for supporting me through everything and never giving up on me. They see me for who I am. I thank my friends for being that blanket of support, even if they didn't know they were sewn into it at the time. And I thank my artist friends, for helping me create a beautiful and wondrous world of things some may think are mythical - when in fact the rest of us know how truly real it all is. It's more than JUST art...it's everything we are!

I wake up every morning, and no matter how tough some days seem, I know there are better ones coming, and I am ALWAYS grateful for the gifts I have in this life and all the things I haven't yet discovered in this pretty painting! ....just thought I would share :)

Hello everyone, and meet Bryn! She is the latest addition to my little family of lovelies! Beetlejuice was on TV the other night and I frantically jumped up and down like a 5 year old child yelling 'Beetlejuice is on! Beetlejuice is on!| ...then proceeded to grab my drawing board, paper, pens, pencil, and erasers and happily draw while watching the movie...this was the outcome. I was very content and in return, am very pleased with the way she arrived. So much so that i'm debating as to whether I should add a background to her at all. I already have my colour scheme but she's just so cute! Anyway, just thought I would share!

I'm MOVING! FINALLY! ahaha! It's been a 5 month process. But we finally sold our home and we found a new one and will be on our way SOON! :)

So I've got some projects I've been working on. This one is a piece i'm doing for a friend of mine. A fantastically wonderful friend and her daughter. They're magic! :) So it makes sense to make them into mermaids! I wasn't sure about it at first but I'm starting to really love this piece! This is just a WIP but I wanted to post SOMETHING! So, the new Alice in Wonderland movie is coming out in March, and as you know by my previous post, I've been busy with my creations! When I told my sister that I wanted to create a Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee mermaid piece she said "OH! Make them like you and me!" So I did! Now, they don't LOOK exactly like us but they're fashioned around us. They are sisters with many similarities but also differences. This is a Work in progress so it's obviously not done but I couldn't wait to share! :) Enjoy!

WOW I'm so excited about this!!!! I had a few surprises thrown my way this morning and they're fabulous so I thought I'd share! One surprise I DID know about and it's about the new monthly kit for the Whimsical Ink Sorority (Stamps based on my designs!). Queen Kat has come up with an AMAZING idea! Every month there will be a new design from me that comes with some sentiments and accessory stamps - this stamps will not be released to the general public for 4 months - if ever - so if you see a stamp you just HAVE to have in one of the kits, I suggest you snag it while it's still there. PUZZLES!!!!

This is the first time i'm attempting puzzles as my new merchandise and I think they will be a pretty fantastic hit at the shows! I'm hoping so anyway! I've got 2 in store right now - a third on the way of the Mad Hatted Mermaid. I LOVE this! The quality of them is so much better than I had anticipated! And they come in the cutest little box! They're in small enough boxes that they won't take up a whole lot of room and they house the puzzle pieces perfectly! They're 252 pieces each and I think they're either 9x14" or 11x14" when they're all put together. Here's some pictures to show you! These are "Erin" and "Cordelia" in puzzle form!

Mermaids like display bins too!

I am not only artsy, I'm crafty too! :) I do a fair amount of art/craft shows these days and I'm always looking for new ways to display my items. I also work at a pet store and when I saw this little dandy about to be tossed to recycling I snagged it up and decided to alter it. Please note, I am, in no way, promoting Purina!!! It just happened to be the company on the display bin I saw potential in! :) So please disregard (on a side note, if you need some advice on pet foods, i'd be happy to share my opinions and knowledge with you! lol!)

So this is what the box USED to look like!

Step 1: When you're displaying colourful mermaid art and things you want a pretty and colourful display bin! So you firtst pick your colours. This is no surprise that I chose a variety of blues, purples, and greesn and of course made it sparkly!!! So, First I cut the purple sparkly paper and laid it on the backboard. And next, following the original layout of the box, I wanted a place to display some information as to what might be in the bin. So I chose a sparkly aqua polka dot paper and cut it to size.

Step 2: When you look INTO the box you also want it to be interesting. So I cut strips of the same aqua polka dot paper but found a beautiful GREEN polka dot paper to go with it. Now, when I was in elementary there was some kind of rhyme or other about blue and green only being seen in a washing machine....RUBBISH I say! :) And here's proof! They're lovely together!
Step 3: The sides. These were interesting pieces to cute! They're very awkwardly shaped but I did it! I felt the flaps on the inside didn't need anything really fancy so I picked out a lighter mauve colour. It's embossed with flowers but no sparkles. And I picked out the same aqua colour paper as before but with sparkly swirls to tie in to the top flap.
Step 4: I needed more stripes! I thought it would be neat and visually appealing to repeat the stripe design on the front of the box. I really love how this turned out!
Step 5: Adding my own personal logos! I mounted each of these different banners/logos on a piece of royal blue sparkly sticky-back foam to give them a bit of depth and pop! These look fabulous in person!
Step 6: Gluing the beads! These beads, if you can believe it WERE silver. They're silver Christmas tree garland beads. I didn't want silver - I didn't think they would add anything to the box. So I painted them with blue metallic acrylic paint! How, you ask?!? Well, I grabbed a sandwhich bag, poured a bit of the blue paint in, tossed in the beads, sealed, and smooshed it around until all the beads were covered! Then I took them out, hung them over the shower rod (protected by paper towel) and let them dry. And then I glued each individual bead to the box with hot glue! yeah...a bit time consuming but i'm meticulous!

And this is the finished product!!!!!! I LOVE it! I think it's just fabulous. I haven't decided 100% what i'm going to display IN the box and at this point I don't care! lol! I just think it's so pretty! I'm very excited to use it! Hope you like what I've done! :) Recycling is COOL!

YAY! So, the Whimsical Ink Sorority team is at it again! They've come up with another FUN venture! Artisans in the Park art event!

YAY!!! So, this past weekend I had my very first art show. It ended up being small, but I had a good time nonetheless! Setting up and seeing my visions come into reality was a pretty cool thing in itself! I wanted to create a table with a fun atmosphere - and how could my girls NOT exude fun?!?

I picked fresh flowers from my own gardens, i used seshells and stones from my own wedding 2 years ago, made my own signs, had pamphlets and business cards - all of which were set up in a fun and cute way! I was so impressed!

Originally there were supposed to be more vendors but the first time the event was supposed to happen, it rained and was cancelled. So, this time around, not as many were available. It still made for a really good day though - the things that were there were incredible!

Alright, i'm really excited about this one! The original line drawing was made to be very versatile as far as what colour of ribbon people would want to support. I painted this one with a pink ribbon for Breast Cancer awareness. She turned out BEAUTIFUL! I don't usually do Angel Like beings - I have certain issues with Anything Angel-like. I can't touch any kind of Angel figurine without breaking or damaging it in one way or another! And there are too many times this has happened to me to just be coincidence! Examples:

1)I accidentally knocked the head off my moms Cherub figurine on Easter when I was 14. I broke my arm that same day. I tried to glue the head back on. I let it set overnight and when I awoke the next morning the head was on the floor....

2)I broke the wings off of at least 3-4 of my moms Cherub figurines.

3)I bought my mom an Angel snowglobe for Mothers day one year with the idea that it was behind glass and there's no way I could harm it. A couple weeks later there was a fog patch on the glass in front of the Angels face...it wouldn't go away....

4)My sister, who thinks these 'issues' are ridiculous nonsense thought it would be funny one Christmas to take one of the hard plastic Angel tree ornaments and rub it all over my back. I just about lost my mind so she said "Here, we'll hang it at the bottom of the tree so even if it DOES fall off it can't break." About an hour after this we were placing presents under the tree and I accidentally bumped the Angel, it fell to the floor, and the wings broke clean off. I will never forget the look on my sisters face!

I asked a Psychic once about these "issues" which until then I was calling a curse, thinking I had done something wrong to warrant this, and she laughed and said that I just had funny energy. That makes sense to me but c'mon! EVERY Angel?!?

Anyway, that little blurb aside, I have an Angel/Fairy/Mermaid here for you! She's not yet for sale but I will be listing her soon on Ebay! When that happens I will post a link for you! Thanks for stopping by! :)

YAY!!!! Ok, so the event has now been rescheduled to July 25th - same place. Stafford Park, Pembroke Ontario! From 8am - 1pm. Local artists - I think there's about 20 vendors lined up! YAY! So exciting!

So far the forcast looks good but it's 2 weeks away so anything could happen....but its looking like hot and sunny....WOO HOO!!!!!

So, the Artisans in the Park event was cancelled yesterday due to rain....but not just rain. Thunderstorms and torrential downpour! lol! However, it was disappointing because it only rained from 6:30am-10am....the rest of the day was gorgeous!

BUT I do think I will be signing up for another event on August 8th, in Petawawa and I'll be looking into our local farmers market to see what can be done there! The event on the 8th has a contingency plan if it should rain!

I also have some new work to share with you all! I've been busy the last couple weeks trying to get ready for the event that never happened so now I have all this stuff!

weeeeeeeeeee! So I have a lot going on right now!!! I just wanted to share!

First up, I'm entering into my very first art event on Saturday, July 11th here in Pembroke, Ontario! Here are the details!

When:Saturday, July 11th

Where: Stafford Park, Pembroke, Ontario

What: Art Event (My very first table event!!!!)

Who: Maigan Lynn and other local artists!

Why: To support local artists (including me!!!! lol)

The event WILL be cancelled if it's raining so I'm crossing my fingers!

ALSO! I've entered into a downtown Pembroke art tour! My art will be showcased in one of the stores downtown - not sure which one yet but I will let you know! I submitted my information a little late so I won't be on the tour map but I will be on the tour website. The store options are between an organic soap shop opening up and a tatoo parlour. Either of which I would be completely ecstatic about!!!

So that's the news from me today! I will keep you all posted. The art tour will be going on all summer long so if you're in town, make sure to stop at Purvis Gallery, downtown Pembroke and pick up a copy of the art tour listings!

I am home again

Hello again everyone!

After a very stressful week I am back home, once again. My grandfather did pass away and my family was busy attending to his funeral arrangements. He's no longer sick and he's in a far better place now. He was loved very dearly.

It may be slow going for me for the next little while but I do intend to get back to work ASAP. I do plan on having a giveaway still. And it should be coming up fairly shortly - here's crossing my fingers there are no more emergencies!

It's my Bday!!!!

YAY!!!! lol ok, so usually I'm not a big fan of Bdays but i've decided from here on out, instead of being sulky about age, I will accept it...it's going to happen whether I like it or not so it might as well be fun! And my husband is truly fantastic! He always tries to make my birthday the most fun possible. This morning, he snuck out before heading off to work to bring me a muffin and chocolate milk from Tim Hortons so it was there when I woke up! And then I woke up to bunny faced balloons and a message on my computer telling me to text him for the first clue for my first present! I found Britney Spears in my underwear/sock drawer and a mermaid Barbie doll in in the microwave! lol!. Well, It was the Britney Spears Circus album and the Barbie wasn't IN the microwave but in the microwave stand! I will get the rest of my adventure clues when he gets home from work! So excited! HAPPY BDAY TO ME!!!!! lol!

What an original name for a blog post! So, I've FINALLY joined the blogging world! Hopefully, here I can give you some links and show you what's new in the world of me and my art!
